A very long time ago
In a land far from here
There once lived two heroes
Known for their good cheer
Because they were happy folks
They smiled the day long
And laughed at each others jokes
And joined together in song
Chastened only by their mothers
The terrible two roamed far
Living and loving and aiding others
As no one now would dare
Described in the histories as heroes
Held up in the annals of time
Shown to be much more than the zeros
That we usually find behind the rhyme
Everyone that then knew them
Told of their rare strength and wit
Wanted to be just like them
And find a world in which they could fit
Friends like this have never been seen
Before or since in all the world
So we celebrate our need
For heroes in this new world
Great they were and gentle too
Knowing kindness of heart
But we still don't know them true
What we've read is only part
How to discover their true selves
We must travel back to a time
When Nymphs and Dryads and Elves
Lived, and Athens was in its prime
Iolaus and Hercules their names
Together travelling a difficult road
Battling the hydras and the fame
Heroes as history has showed
Just watch them now and see
How they laugh and goad
Watch their antics free
As they take this dusty road
Keeping pace with his godly friend
Iolaus giggles and bounces
A festival is where they're bound
And Iolaus loves all the dances
Long before sunset the heroic pair
Are found arriving at the town
Enjoying the soft evening air
Greeting unkind words with a frown
Most people there know our heroes
And greet them with smiles and cheers
But some are jealous and it shows
In their look and envious sneers
Not all of the people liked the two
They were sometimes met with a dare
Men who thought the best they could do
Would be to beat Zeus's son and heir
Opponents rallied to their cause
Attempting to defeat the son of a god
He always gave them time to pause
Before throwing them into the sod
Protecting his brother's back as always
Stood Iolaus, small but able
If trouble called, he was in these frays,
Because so many refused to sit at the table
Quiet now we see them sitting
Watching others dance and sing
Joined together in their reminiscing
Thinking of their latest fling
Rest assured you modern readers
That our heroes truly were
Better than all other comers
There was nothing that could deter
Standing tall together always
Hercules and Iolaus somehow knew
That through all those nights and days
The other would stand forever true
Together they fought demons and men
Gods and monsters stood against each
But never defeated were the twain
Who as a pair could a lesson teach
Under everything we know
Lay the love of brothers
Rarely did they let it show
Their love that stood above all others
Very special were this pair
Separately but especially together
Seeing their love makes any day fair
Its power flies above any weather
Which we all know controls our mood
But they could defeat even that
With their joy and power of good
But not only they as heroes sat
Xena, warrior princess
And her friend Gabrielle
Were two who also possessed
That special ability to thrill
You are lucky you know
To hear this sweet tale
To have these heroes to show
The way to be strong and not ail
Zeus himself was so proud of his two boys
His son, half mortal and mortal beside him.
They left us a legacy, that helps with our joys
So never forget, don't let their memory dim.
