The Adventures of Ceryndip: Warrior Goddess

Boy, What A Day!

Prologue

by GarySevn

The weather had been wonderful, for the third day of their long awaited trip to the ruins of ancient Greece. The two self proclamed amazons, Ceryndip and her trusty sidekick Jane, had saved up all year for this trip. Texas now seemed like a world away.

The tall one with the long red flowing locks was Ceryndip, famed historian and archeogist. The slightly shorter woman with shoulder length white hair ruffled in the warm breeze was Jane , bussiness woman and successful author.

Their tour group was just now entering the site of the ancient ruins, the girls were in awe of this spectacle .

"Just think Hercules once might have walked these streets," said Ceryndip. "I would love to dig around here."

"They wouldn't allow that in a million years," answerd Jane.

"Who says anybody has to find out!" whispered Ceryndip, pushing a handfull of red hair from in front of her eyes.

"Now just wait a second we can't just go and--" Jane was cut off by Ceryndip

"No, listen, at the next stop while everybody is busy is listing to mister dull" refering to their geeky-looking tour guide. "We sneak off and explore on our own, what d'ya say?'"

"You're always getting me in trouble, but, what the heck"

The two of them easily slipped away from the tour, never being missed, as the small bus pulled away.

"Hey, you didn't say anything about letting them leave us here, it's a long walk back to the hotel" grumbled Jane.

"Oh, come on it'll be fun" Ceryndip said as she headed toward the largest ruin.

"Hey, wait up!" yelled Jane reajusting her small backpack along the way.

They made it up the hill to what looked like the largest of the ruins. They wandered around the large rubble strewn structure until they came upon something that looked like markings on the floor.

"Look here," said Cery motioning Jane to come closer.

The red-haired amazon bent down to better examine her new find, she brushed and blew the dust away, only to discover it wasn't writing. It was some oddly shaped carving, or at least that's what looked like. Until she leaned on it and it shank into the floor

"Kewl," Cery jerked her hand back.

Then the small door sized section of floor sifted and began to tilt up, They lost their balance and began to slide forword through the opening. They landed with a resounding thud raising a small cloud of dust from the floor.

"I knew we'd get in trouble, its like the Egypt thing all over," said Jane as she dusted herself off.

"Hey, how was I supposted to know that would happen, anyway,.your hair grew back."

Ceryndip then unzipped the small pouch on her waist and fished out a small flashlight and shined it around.

"It looks to be some undiscoverd chamber. What's this?"

She shined the beam on a dust-filled outline in the wall.

"Maybe it's a way out?" asked Jane

"Here hold this," Cery handed Jane the light.

Ceryndip's nimble fingers probed the recessed grooves only to find it was a door. But, how did it open, there was no visible knob or latch.

'It is a door of some kind but I don't see how to open it. What might have been the purpose for such a door?'"

Jane stepped forword, she unsuspectingly stepped on another hidden panel in the floor. The door began to slide open.

"This place is full of surprises, boy," quiped Cery." I wonder why it's remained undiscovered for so long?"

"Maybe that's why!" said Jane, training her light on two skeletons .

She then shined the light around, it reflected off something in the middle of the room. It was a large glowing crystal with a tarnished golden base. Ceryndip picked it up and held it in the light .

"What is it?" asked Jane.

"I don't know, but it looks like it has writing, ancient Greek, maybe three thousand years." Cery then atempted to rub the tarnish from the writing, it then began to glow.

"Why's it doing that?" exclamed Jane in an alarming tone.

"I don't know!"

The glowing seemed to get brighter and brighter, she dropped the strange artifact and when it hit the ground there was a brilliant flash.

The two intrepid explorers were gone, only the twinkling green crystal lying in the dust remained.
