Twins--All Iolaus Day on the IML April 16, 1999 by Gwen Olivier golivier@juno.com Hercules was totally absorbed in trying to repair the leather strap on his left gauntlet, so he did not bother to look up as he heard the double chorus of ahems trying to get his attention. "I thought you two were going to the All Iolaus Day on the IML?" "We are, but we wanted your opinion first," said Iolaus. Hercules glanced up at the two men, the gaunlet hanging from his teeth by a leather strap fell to the floor as his jaw dropped open. The two men were both wearing brand new dark blue leather pants with light blue vests and brown boots. There was no pendant in sight on either one of them. They both sported the same hair cut and were wearing identical smiles. "I...um...what's the occasion?" The Iolaus2 frowned at Hercules, "All Iolaus Day on the IML?" "But why?" asked a confused Hercules. "Well, those Iolausians are so observant, we want to see if they can really tell the two of us apart if we were dressed exactly alike. We plan to visit every one of them today," explained Iolaus. "That's a lot of visiting," said Hercules. "Yeah, and lots of chocolate and coffee," grinned Iolaus. "Iolaus tells me this day is lots of fun," added the Iolaus2. "Well, just be careful, they've been known to get Iolaus in lots of trouble." Iolaus grinned and cocked his head, "Well, yeah, that's why it's so much fun." Iolaus2 was really scowling now. "Wait a minute, are you sure about this?" "Trust me," said Iolaus wiggling his eyebrows in such a way that reassurance was the last thing Iolaus2 felt. "So, Hercules, close your eyes." "Why?' "We want to see if you can tell us a part." "That's not a problem," said Hercules. "Will you just do it. And then turn your back and give us a few seconds then turn around and tell us who is who without us talking." Hercules shrugged. "Okay, but you're wasting your time." "Yeah, yeah," said Iolaus, "so hurry up." Hercules nodded closed his eyes and turned his back to the two men. "All right, my eyes are closed." He could hear the two men moving around, when the noise stopped, he turned around and looked from one man to the other. They had switched places and moved to opposite sides of the room. "You're Iolaus," said Hercules indicating Iolaus, "and you're Iolaus from the alternate world." "How'd you do that?" asked Iolaus2 as Iolaus just shook his head. "Your eyes," said Hercules. "Oh," said Iolaus2, "then the Iolausians will probably be able to tell us apart, too." "I'm sure some of them if not all of them will," agreed Hercules. "I know what we can do," said Iolaus moving toward Iolaus2 and grabbing his arm and leading him out the door, "you know those vision enhancers, what if we tinted them and...Bye, Herc." "Bye, Hercules." "Bye, guys. Have fun. And be careful." Heads up Iolausians, they're on their way. Hercules had just settled down with a nice cup of tea and one of Iolaus2's scrolls he had been wanting to read, when the "twins" returned from their All Iolaus Day on the IML. Iolaus2 looked none the worse for wear, but Iolaus was a bedraggled mess. His new clothes were torn and stained and very damp. His hair was plastered to his head. His eyes were very bloodshot. And he was staggering on his feet. Iolaus2 helped Iolaus into the room and eased him into a chair which he immediately fell out of onto the floor. Before Iolaus2 could put down the stuffed sack he was carrying, Iolaus was sound asleep. Hercules looked from Iolaus to Iolaus2. "There's tea in the kitchen if you'd like some." "No, thanks, I don't think I'll be able to eat or drink again for several days. I'm stuffed." He threw the sack to Hercules. "Here's a bunch of goodies they sent home with us. Have some. They're all wonderful, especially the brownies." He sighed contentedly. "So you had a good day?" Iolaus2 grinned, "I had a marvelous day. Everyone was really nice to me, and they plied me with all sorts of interesting things to eat and drink. And they played music and read poems and told stories about me and Iolaus. And so many of them said it was nice having the both of us." He saw the look on Hercules' face and blushed, "For a visit," he added quickly. "It was a perfectly lovely day." Hercules looked over at the slumbering Iolaus. "What happened to him?" "Well, for some strange reason, lots of the Iolausians wanted to see him wet. And you wouldn't believe the things they came up with to soak him with: water, wine, lemonade, ale, milk, chocolate, pudding, jello, oh, I can't remember it all. I felt really sorry for him. And those who weren't pushing him into pools or spilling things over his head, were after him to bake cookies and things. They kept him really busy all day long." Hercules smiled and nodded his head. "Sounds like a typical AID to me." Iolaus2's eyes grew wide. "Really? And he keeps going back?" "I think he loves it." Hercules stood up. "Maybe we should get him out of those wet clothes." "I guess. There were lots of Iolausians who offered to dry his clothes throughout the day. And most even offered him something to wear while he waited, but one woman wouldn't give him anything but..." "But what?" prompted Hercules. Iolaus2 was turning a very bright shade of red, "Well, a bunch of grapes. She said if they were good enough for you..." "Nevermind, I get the picture." "Could you explain it to me?" "Some other time--maybe. Let's get him dry and into a warm bed." He scooped Iolaus off the floor and headed for the bedroom. Iolaus2 stared at the large sack of goodies and smiled, before following Hercules. It really had been a nice day. He, too, was suddenly looking forward to the next one. Maybe next time someone would ask him to help bake..." *If you enjoyed this story, remember to send feedback, it's the only payment our author's get. you can find the author's email address at the beginning of this story. *Some images, characters and other things used in these works are the property of others, including but not limited to Renaissance Pictures and Universal Studios.
