Iolaus by Gwen Olivier golivier@juno.com Iolaus paused while crossing footbridge and discovered a woman clinging desperately to a rock in the middle of the rapidly moving cascades. Iolaus quickly crossed the bridge and made his way down the steep cliff to the edge of the water. The woman saw him. "Help me!" she screamed. "I can't hold on much longer." "Hang on," yelled Iolaus as he moved to the edge of the river and gingerly stepped forward onto the first rock. The woman screamed, "No, you'll be killed, too." "I hope not," said Iolaus as he took another step forward. The woman was watching him with horror in her eyes. Iolaus suddenly flashed on another woman on a broken bridge who had panicked and fallen to her death. Iolaus shuddered. He could not dwell on that right now. It would get them both killed. This woman was wide-eyed, but she didn't seem hysterical. He took another step forward. She smiled at him. He smiled back. He stepped forward again. He had to remind himself to study the water and the rocks instead of looking at the woman. He made his way steadily forward till he was right next to her. He found the best spot to steady himself before he bent down to offer her his hand. She accepted it readily, and he easily pulled her up out of the water to stand on the rock next to him. She wrapped her arms around him as she fought to gain her balance. When they were both steady, Iolaus smiled into her eyes. She smiled back. "It's really slippery, but if you move carefully we can make it back to shore," said Iolaus. "No problem," said the woman, who turned and scampered easily from one rock to another like she had done it all her life. Iolaus stood frowning after her as she made it to shore. "Hey, are you going to spend the day there?" called a familiar voice. Iolaus glanced up to see Hercules leaning over the side of the bridge. He rolled his eyes and turned to carefully make his way back to the shore where the woman threw both her arms around him and kissed him firmly on the mouth. Iolaus pulled back and looked into her eyes, then he kissed her. Hercules cleared his throat on the cliff above them. "Uh, I'll be at the tavern when you're finished. Iolaus leaned back and gazed into the woman's eyes, "Okay, don't wait up." He waved a hand in Hercules' direction, keeping his eyes on the woman. "You didn't have any trouble getting to shore." "I'm sorry, but I slipped and I just couldn't get up out of the water. My house is close by, would you like to join me for dinner?" "I'd love to, I'm Iolaus." "I'm Hebea." Iolaus put his arm around Hebea and they headed for her house. *If you enjoyed this story, remember to send feedback, it's the only payment our author's get. you can find the author's email address at the beginning of this story. *Some images, characters and other things used in these works are the property of others, including but not limited to Renaissance Pictures and Universal Studios.
